Rolled wood
A 100% eco-friendly technique

Eco-responsible production
The rolled wood technique enables the creation of various types of objects: cases, pouches, displays, gifts, and cigar boxes.
It is customizable and allows for the use of different wood species. It enables the creation of original, rounded shapes. It is eco-friendly, as its carbon footprint is minimal compared to plastic or cardboard.
It is both lightweight and durable.

The ultimate champion
in terms of “embodied energy.”
For rigid case, rolled wood is the only true eco-friendly alternative to cardboard, plastic, and MDF. Plastics require a significant amount of energy to produce. Paper and cardboard need to be pulped, soaked, chemically bleached, pressed into sheets, and dried.
Wood stands as the ultimate champion: it is cut, dried, and ready to use. With the veneering technique, the log is sliced into sheets without showing any saw or planing marks.

All the material is used
from the sliced log to the final product !
Rolled wood is not machined to produce the final product but built layer by layer (additive manufacturing). Drying a 0.4mm-thick sheet requires almost no energy compared to a 25mm-thick board.
Veneer sheets can be rolled for transport, significantly reducing the carbon footprint.

It is highly durable
with a thickness of just 2.2mm.
The rolled wood technique consumes 30 times less embodied energy than MDF and 100 times less than paper.
It is four times lighter than carbon fiber – approximately 450 kg/m³ (depending on the type of wood used) compared to 1.8 tons/m³.
It allows for the creation of innovative shapes that are impossible or very difficult to achieve with traditional wood—without generating additional waste.
– Veneer => 0.3 MJ/kg
– Industrial Plywood like => 10.4 MJ/kg
– MDF => 11.9 MJ/kg
– Paper => 36 MJ/kg
– Brass => 62 MJ/kg
– ABS => 111 MJ/kg

It is less expensive
than a traditional high-end case.
Mold costs and production expenses are 10 times lower than those for plastic, for instance.
The finish can be natural, whereas paper requires lamination and plastic needs painting to ensure good protection and an attractive appearance.
This is the ideal process for a circular economy. Wood is recyclable or easily degradable, and any waste can be recycled into paper or MDF.
